Happy New Year!

Now that 2025 is here, it's time to breathe some fresh life into your blog...starting with that low-hanging fruit. I talked about this in my last email. Read that HERE!

To refresh your memory, it’s the content that’s almostt there..you know, those posts that are hanging out on the bottom of page 1 or page 2 of Google, just waiting for a nudge to climb higher.

Updating old content can be boring, but trust me, it’s one of the easiest ways to boost your traffic without reinventing the wheel.

Here’s how I tackle it step by step:

1. Find the Fruit 🍎 I show this in my last email. Here is the video. These are the posts that have the most potential. Sort by position and aim for those ranking between 4-20.
2. Ask Yourself: “What’s Missing?” 🔍 Put yourself in your reader’s shoes. What might stop you from scrolling? Is it boring? Does it look like the other 10 posts on page 1?? Maybe the headline needs more spice, or the post doesn’t answer the reader’s question completely or the reader's NEXT question. A quick Google search for your target keyword will show you the top-ranking posts. Compare your content to theirs and take notes. Don't copy!
3. Refresh the Post 🖋️: Now’s the time to "zhuzh" it up. Make your post AMAZING. Don't rush the process! Here's some ideas:
   • Update the intro to hook readers right away.
   • Add new tips, steps, or FAQs to make it the ultimate resource.
   • Update your images (or at least optimize them better). A good photo can work wonders.
   • Double-check your keywords! Sometimes tweaking them slightly can give you an edge. Is the keyword mentioned in 80% of the headers? Maybe we bring that down to 20%? Maybe our keyword density is way too low? Maybe your LSI keywords are lacking. Use keysearch to help with this.
   • Plan on adding more relevant posts and linking them together. This will help with topical authority. I talk about this in my course! (More on this in a later email.)
   • Add a video.
   • Get somebody else's opinion!
4. Refresh internal links 🔗: Sprinkle in some fresh internal links to keep readers on your blog. Swap out old anchor text using the new varied low-hanging fruit anchor text. Increase incoming internal links from the most relevant content. Add the post to your sidebar. I like using Link Whisper to help.)
5. Check your SEO Basics 🚀: Don’t forget the small stuff! Make sure your meta description is enticing. Add descriptive alt text to your images. Is your post mobile-friendly? (Over half of readers are probably on their phones!) Consider grouping blocks together to avoid reading disruptions.
6. Promote Like It’s Brand New 📣: Once it’s updated, treat it like you just hit publish. Share it on social media, send it to your email list, add it to your homepage, and create new pins!
7. Monitor and Adjust 📈: After a few weeks, check back in with Google Search Console, Google analytics or your keyword tool to see if your updates made a difference. Traffic bump? Great! If not, tweak some more.
